This Week in PLoS Medicine: Rotavirus vaccines in Brazil; Exercise for Chilean elderly; IHR and antimicrobial resistance

Four new articles were published this week in PLoS Medicine, including a Perspective on a research article.

A time series analysis by Manish Patel and colleagues shows that the introduction of rotavirus vaccination in Brazil is associated with reduced diarrhea-related deaths and hospital admissions in children under 5 years of age.

Alan Dangour and colleagues report results from the CENEX (Cost-effectiveness Evaluation of a Nutritional supplement and EXercise program for older people) trial, which evaluated a nutritional and exercise program aiming to prevent pneumonia and physical decline in Chilean people.

Stephen Harbarth and colleagues argue that the International Health Regulations (IHR) should be applied to the global health threat of antimicrobial resistance. In a related Perspective article Adam Kamradt-Scott critiques this proposal.
