PLoS Pathogens on This Week in Virology

In the April 18th TWiV podcast, Vincent Racaniello, Alan Dove, Dickson Despommier, and Rich Condit discuss a recent PLoS Pathogens article concerning the connection between cold weather fronts and outbreaks of avian H5N1 influenza in Europe, “Spatial and Temporal Association of Outbreaks of H5N1 Influenza Virus Infection in Wild Birds with the 0°C Isotherm“. Also discussed in the week’s podcast – treating arthritis with a tanapox virus protein, and the Darwinian evolution of prions in cell culture.

Additionally, long-time PLoS Pathogens editor Adolfo Garcia-Sastre was recently interviewed at length in the March 21st TWiV podcast, concerning the origin, pathogenesis, and prevention of the 2009 pandemic influenza H1N1 virus.
