PLOS Computational Biology T-Shirt Design Winner Announced

PLOS Computational Biology is pleased to announce the winner of our 2016 t-shirt competition! This year’s t-shirt was designed by Luigi Di Costanzo, and will be given away at the ISMB 2016 conference in Orlando, Florida (July 8-12).

The design was inspired by the research of Bradley et al. (2015) on tandem repeat proteins. It shows the X-ray crystal structure of dTor_12x31L (PDB ID 5BYO), which represents a landmark achievement in computational structure prediction, design, and validation. It is one of a series of proteins that demonstrate that tandem repeat proteins can be designed to “close” themselves. This unique, left-handed toroid is the result of a state-of-the-art design process that explores aspects of inter-repeat geometry to produce protein architecture not previously observed in nature. The image was created using UCSF Chimera.

The PLOS booth will be open at ISMB 2016 from the 9th to the 12th of July. This is the last year that the journal’s t-shirt competition will run, so make sure you drop by Booth 18 for an insight into the journal and (while stocks last) a free PLOS Computational Biology t-shirt!
