Just a quick note to let everyone know that next week we are planning a series focusing on one of our favourite topics – metabolically healthy obesity. If you have any thoughts, questions, or comments on the topic before the series begins, feel free to post them here.

A good review for everyone from Dr. Sharma’s website

About 1.6% of the population is estimated to fit this category
I’ve got my fat fingers crossed…
Sure. Always interested in good analyses of “obesity paradox” in mortality studies of older people.
Thanks for bringing that up, Amby! We still haven’t made the obesity paradox the focus of a post, hopefully we can do that this week.

Kudos to you for your brave stance on this very important issue. This topic is so difficult to get across to the general public. I hope it reaches as many people as possible.
I’ve read your 3 posted stories so far, and am looking forward to reading the full series. However, I think a chart would be helpful for laypeople to understand some of your findings. In the 2nd part of your series you give the illness rates for the 20-30% metabolically healthy obese. What are the type-2 diabetes and cardiovascular illness rates for the 70-80% non-metabolically healthy obese? Putting all the data together would increase my understanding.
thanks for a very interesting series of articles.
