Human Biology/Biological Anthro Position at USF

My department is hiring! We’re looking for excellent candidates for our biological anthrology/human biology position here in the Department of Anthropology at the University of South Florida.

The Department of Anthropology at the University of South Florida (USF) seeks an Assistant Professor with expertise in Biological Anthropology and Human Biology to begin Fall 2012. Areas of interest should complement those of the current faculty and might include areas such as: developmental origins of health and disease (DOHaD), evolutionary medicine, life history and health disparities, human plasticity (developmental plasticity, neuroplasticity, epigenetics), biocultural approaches to human biology, mixed methods (e.g., ethnographic, biomarkers and other biological measures), and applied biological anthropology. Geographic area is open. Candidates must be committed to four-field anthropology and applied anthropology, and hold a Ph.D. in Anthropology at the time of appointment. Interdisciplinary research is strongly encouraged by the department and the university.

Located in the Tampa Bay metropolitan region, USF has Colleges of Medicine, Nursing, and Public Health, the Moffitt Cancer Center (NCI designated Comprehensive Cancer Center), the Byrd Alzheimer’s Institute, and departments in Arts and Sciences focusing on different facets of health and illness. Therefore, candidates should be prepared to engage in interdisciplinary research with institutional colleagues. Further, as a Carnegie ranked ‘Very High Research’ institution, the successful candidate will be expected to apply for external funding to support their research portfolio. Candidates should be prepared to teach undergraduate and graduate courses as required by the department; develop courses within their own specialization; and mentor M.A. and Ph.D. students. Applicants should provide evidence of teaching competence and research success (i.e., external funding and publication).

The Department of Anthropology offers M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in applied anthropology, a dual degree in anthropology and public health, and a concentration in biocultural medical anthropology.
