ScienceOnline has become my favorite meeting. To be surrounded by so many smart, creative, risk-embracing people for three days nonstop is a joy.
Among the sessions that stick out as exceptional was one featuring bloggers who’ve written books and how one medium feeds and/or impedes the other. In this conversation, Seth Mnookin, whose book I look forward to reading, discussed taking out liability insurance to the tune of several thousand dollars per year because of the heated and sometimes threatening rhetoric that gets tossed around on the subject of vaccines and autism.
I suppose that given the litigious and often mean-spirited world we live in I shouldn’t be, but it gets me down nonetheless. Can’t we all just get along?
