Obesity Panacea Heads to the National Obesity Summit

Tomorrow morning Canada’s National Obesity Summit begins in Montréal, Québec, and Peter and I are pleased to be official bloggers for the conference!  The conference will be hosting national and international obesity experts, with 2 full days of plenary sessions and another 2 days of posters and free communications.

Peter and I will be blogging and tweeting throughout the conference, so the volume of posts during the next few days will likely be a bit higher than usual.  We’ve even got a game-plan thanks to detailed advice from our friend Scicurious, which we’ve posted over at Science of Blogging.  And since many of Canada’s top obesity researchers and students (not to mention ~20% of our population) are francophone, we are hoping to incorporate french-language content throughout the conference as well through guest posts and embedded video presentations.

We’re going to be actively looking for content to share during the conference, so if you’re also attending, come say hi and let us know if you saw anything that you think people should know about.  And if you’re blogging about the conference in either language, please let us know so that we can spread the word via Obesity Panacea.  And of course we’d love to hear your thoughts by commenting here on the blog as well.

If you’re tweeting or blogging about the conference, be sure to use the #con11 hashtag to make it easier for people to find them. Even if you’re not on twitter, you can follow the discussion in your web browser by clicking here.

To help you follow the disucssion, here are some of the Obesity Summit participants who will likely be tweeting throughout the week:

Dr Arya Sharma – Canadian Obesity Network Scientific Director

Dr Yoni Freedhoff – Bariatric Physician, Canadian Obesity Network Chair of Family Medicine

Dr Diane Finegood – Professor in the Department of Biomedical Physiology & Kinesiology, Simon Fraser University

Atif Kukaswadia – PhD Student (Queen’s) and former Obesity Panacea Podcast guest

Jonathan Gravel – MSc Student (University of Ottawa)

Alex F – PhD Student

Penny Deck – PhD Student (Simon Fraser University)

Megan Carter – PhD Student (University of Ottawa)

UPDATE: Diana Bedoya (thanks, Penny!)

And of course Peter and myself.

For a taste of what to expect at the Summit, the Canadian Obesity Network has a vast library of presentations from previous events, many from the world’s leading obesity experts.  I’ve chosen one by our colleague Yoni Freedhoff to embed below (I had to shrink it to fit within the size of our blog’s template, so to get the full effect of the video and slides I suggest watching it on “full screen”) to give people a sense of what to expect from the plenaries.

See you in Montreal!
